Melissa del Carmen Ernstberger: Critical 21st century cartography education

Join us for an insightful presentation on the evaluation of critical cartography in higher education. This presentaiton will introduce a newly developed framework for assessing critical content and instruction in cartography curricula, based on an in-depth review of global university courses. Drawing from the methodology of Tintiangco-Cubales et al. (2020), the presentation will highlight how critical curriculum reviews can address systemic oppression in education. Through interviews with course founders and lecturers, Melissa has explored the current landscape of critical cartography education, aiming to establish common criteria for both content and instructional methods.

Gisela Romero Candanedo: IoT-based Dashboard for Mapping Snow Cover Fraction in Quasi-Real Time

The presentation introduces a visualization approach for near real-time (NRT) mapping of snow cover fraction (SCF). This is achieved by integrating data from sensor stations using Internet of Things (IoT) technology and aerial imagery. The goal is to enhance data assimilation and spatial visualization to help domain experts better understand snow dynamics in complex terrains. It also aims to provide comprehensive Geo-data visualization for non-experts. Additionally, the approach contributes to the 13th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) by adhering to FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and optimizing the Data Life Cycle (DLC) for geoinformation available to society.
